November 1, 2006 – Los Angeles, CA – When renting two-way radios and
accessories for your event or project there are several factors to take into consideration.
Two-Way Radio Equipment
Not all two-way radios are the same. Shasta Sowards, co-founder of SJ Linking Systems, a communication rental and sales company located at Raleigh Studios in
Hollywood, says, “When selecting a two-way radio you must first assess the type of
event and venue.” The most popular product among the SJ Linking Systems
clientele is the Motorola CP200. The unit is compact, sleek, and can be used in
various applications (including, but not limited to, weddings, concerts, festivals,
parades, commercial/television/feature productions, and conventions).
Headsets / Earpieces
Once the type of two-way radio has been established, the next step is to find the
best accessories applicable for the event or project. Accessories range from
headsets to earpieces to repeaters to charging units. With the Motorola CP200 twoway
radio, various styles of headset and earpieces are available (surveillance kits,
lightweight over-the-head, hand microphones). If the event space is expansive a
repeater, a device that projects the radio signal enhancing the coverage area, may
be necessary.
Charging Units
SJ Linking Systems also offers a unique charging unit enclosed in a pelican case. “The Plug & Play Charging Case is one of the most exclusive products we offer and
has become essential when shipping to clients (nationally or globally) outside the Los
Angeles area,” remarks Jennifer Sheppard, co-founder of SJ Linking Systems. The
charging case has 6 spaces to charge the two-way radios simultaneously, with a
power pack that plugs directly into any standard outlet. The Plug & Play Charging
Case is a lightweight solution for productions and events constantly on the move.
Certificate of Insurance / Rental Agreement
The replacement of two-way radios and accessories is expensive. To cover this
equipment in case it is lost, stolen or damaged, most rental companies will require a
certificate of insurance (COI) naming them as additional insured. Along with the
COI, rental companies will also request that their rental agreement be signed. This
agreement places the liability on to the renter in case of injury or loss of equipment
due to negligence.
